Wisdom from the Proverbs 02

Seize the Moment – Day 154

The Fear of the Lord

“ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

Thirty-six years ago today, I started on the journey of marital bliss with Katheena Marie Baich, or as you know her, Tina! Before we started down the aisle, we spent a couple of months going through 8 hours of intense pre-marital counseling with her pastor.

He kept driving home that we must keep God first in all the areas of our lives if we wanted our marriage to be a success. He told us that the fear of the Lord was not something that we were to be afraid of, but rather it is a reverence, a holy respect for who God is and the power that He holds. We are honoring God with our love and devotion towards each other, which then brings Him honor and glory.

If our relationship with God is out of whack, then all of our relationships will be out of balance. We need to be in right relationship with Him, bringing Him honor in all we say and do. God is our center focus! He is what keeps us balanced. And we are to never stop learning, for “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of….”. That is why Solomon gives the opposing side, saying a fool hates being told what they need to know.

Tommy Walker sings a song that says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…life, hope, meaning and joy.” James 1:5 says: “if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” I don’t know about you, but I want to always keep learning from the One who knows what is best!

Seize the moment today and start being a better learner of God’s wisdom, and don’t think that you have already learned it all!
