Seize the Moment – Day 116
Great is Thy Faithfulness
Good Morning! This is Pastor Ken Durham from First Baptist Church in New Castle, IN
Today is Saturday, July 11.
Hymns, both ancient and modern are a key part of the worship aspects of our lives. There are those that are rich in theology and others that express heartfelt praise. So, I am going to feature a different hymn on Saturdays for the upcoming months.
Lamentations 3:22-23 says “His compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness”
Both of these verses inspired the author Thomas Obediah, Chisholm. Born in Kentucky, he came to the Lord at age 27 under the ministry of H.C. Morrison. Battling poor health throughout his life, He found comfort in Lamentations chapter 3. It inspired the poem, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, which he sent to a musician friend, William Runyan, who composed the song in 1923. It became the unofficial song for Moody Bible Institute and would later be used by George Beverly Shea and the choirs at the Billy Graham Crusades.
“Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.”
Is there a song in your heart? Why not write it down and use it for your personal worship time or even share it with your friends?
