Daniel 9

Day 1604

Rooted in History!

Daniel 9

Good morning! This is Pastor Jerry Ingalls from New Castle First Baptist Church and today is Wednesday, August 7.

The prophetic books are rooted in the history of Israel. The prophet Daniel, who was serving in the royal court of Darius the Mede, was reading the prophetic work of Jeremiah, which was written in Jerusalem, when he found the prophecy that God’s people would be released from exile after seventy years (Jeremiah 25:11-12; 29:10-14). Daniel 9:3-19 records the prophet’s plea to God after discovering the prophecy of Jeremiah:

So I gave my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed and said, “Alas, O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, we have sinned, committed iniquity, acted wickedly and rebelled, even turning aside from Your commandments and ordinances. … O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and take action! For Your own sake, O my God, do not delay, because Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”

Daniel responded to this prophecy by praying according to God’s promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14, “and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” God responded to Daniel’s humble plea, sending the angel Gabriel to encourage him personally in Daniel 9:23, “At the beginning of your supplications the command was issued, and I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed; so give heed to the message and gain understanding of the vision.”

Seize the moment and pray according to God’s Word, and God will respond to you. He doesn’t need to send an angel to you because He has already given you the Comforter, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

God bless you!
