Day 1533
Trust God to Keep His Word!
Good morning! This is Pastor Jerry Ingalls from New Castle First Baptist Church and today is Tuesday, May 28.
God is sovereign. The acrostic poem of Lamentations 2 begins with a rapid-fire rhythm of statements, which express God’s active involvement in the judgment of His people and His city:
• “The Lord has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in His anger” (1).
• “The Lord has swallowed up; He has not spared all the habitations of Jacob” (2).
• “In fierce anger He has cut off all the strength of Israel” (3).
• “He has bent His bow like an enemy” (4).
• “He has swallowed up Israel” (5).
• “He has destroyed His appointed meeting place” (6).
• “The Lord has rejected His altar” (7).
• “He has not restrained His hand from destroying” (8).
God was faithful and righteous to judge the sin of His people according to His Word, as clearly stated in Deuteronomy 28:15-16, “But it shall come about, if you do not obey the Lord your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you: Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the country.” This truth captures the heart of the second acrostic poem, as Lamentations 2:17 explained, “The Lord has done what He purposed; He has accomplished His word which He commanded from days of old. He has thrown down without sparing, and He has caused the enemy to rejoice over you; He has exalted the might of your adversaries.” God did it according to His Word.
Seize the moment and trust God to do what He says He will do – “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:8-9).
God bless you!
